Summary:

Fox 7 News asked the Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators to set up an investigation that they could air on October, 31. Halloween night. The investigation took place in a Boonville home that we had investigated back in July of 2005. The home is located at 303 South First Street. The family has lived in the house for six years and has experienced some unusual paranormal phenomena.

Intorduction:

The Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators and MESA (MULTI-ENERGY SENSOR ARRAY) investigated the home at 303 South First st. back on July 9th 2005 and found some unusual phenomena going on in the house. The home is over 120 years old and has an attic, two floors, and a basement. During the first Investigation some of the researchers experienced some unusual activity, such as auditory phenomena, a baby crying in the attic and an old woman crying in what is now the master bedroom, and a sensed presences in the turret room in the attic.

Method:

The Vernier System was set up in the master bedroom. The sensors include; Light Sensor, Temperature Probe, Magnetic Sensor and Motion Sensor. The bedroom was sampled for one hour. MESA was set up in the kitchen at the same time and ran for one hour. I do not have the results back on them at this time.

Channel 1: Visible Light Sensor: This sensor recorded no unusual light in this room it went from 0.2 Lux, to 2.5 Lux and the cause for this was the light from laptop.

Channel 2: Temperature Probe: The Temperature probe did not record any changes in temperature it was 65.5f at the start and went down to 64.5f at the end of the sampling period we look for a 10 or 15 degree for it to be anomalous.

Channel 3: Magnetic Field Sensor: The Magnetic Field Sensor did not record any changes in the area during the sampling period.

Digital/Sonic 1: Motion Sensor: The Motion Sensor did not record any motion during the sampling period.

Photographs: Three photos that was taken by Zak Riggs are what we would call anomalous. One is of a mist on the back side of the house and the photo right after that is clear of the mist. The second is in the attic and shows a green mass and green light that was not there when the photo was taken, and the last one was taken in the kitchen area and shows a lot of energy. That is unusual when the rest of the photo is fine, you can also see a small light coming off of Adria's arm and going down on the back of the chair.

Video: No unusual video was recorded.

Audio: No unusual audio was recorded.

EMF Field Sensor: A 3.9 mG reading was taken coming out of the little girl's room by David Dugas this was in the doorway and no cause was found for this reading.

At this time the Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators would like to thank the home owners for having us in their home for this investigation, also Fox 7 News for doing this investigation for the Halloween show on October 31, and Tim Harte of MESA, all of the SIPI members for all the time they put in this group to help make it what it is with out them we could not do what we do.

The Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators were host this year at the overnight investigation at the Willard Library along with the MESA team of Tim Harte and Mike Holinshead as well as PHI and the Willard Ghost Chatters and other guests.

Background:
The Willard Library was built in 1885. it is the oldest public library in Indiana. It is located at 21 First Avenue, Evansville, IN. at the corner of First Ave. and the Lloyd Expressway. It was built by Willard Carpenter, A philanthropist from where it gets it name it was designed by James and Merritt Reed, this glorious Victorian gothic structure is nestled in the center of a six-lane highway and busy city streets of this Southwestern Indiana city. It was inducted into the National Historic Places in 1972. According to popular sources (Hauck, 1996), the Willard Library was first considered to be haunted in 1937 when a custodian quit after encountering an apparition of a "gray lady" in the basement. Since then, staff and patrons have claimed to sense the apparition's presence as a cold spot or strong odor of perfume. The apparition has been reported near the restrooms, elevator, furnace room, and the children's room in the basement. In the 1950's the children's librarian Margaret Maier claimed to have seen the apparition repeatedly (Maier died in 1989). Allegedly the ghost was also seen on a security monitor near the restrooms in 1997. In 1992 a child reported see two ghosts in the children's room. The child reported seeing whom is believed to be Maier sitting in a peacock chair, and standing behind was the apparition of the "gray lady." The gray is reported to appear wearing clothing from the late 1880's. The identity of the apparition is still debated to this day. However, the majority of opinion suggests that the apparition is that of Louise Carpenter, the daughter of the library's founder. Louise Carpenter once sued the library's board of trustees claiming that her father was "of unsound mind and unduly influenced in establishing the (Willard) Library" (www.willard.lib.in.us). She lost the suit, and as a result, her claim to any of the library's property. After her death, her spirit has allegedly returned to the library and will continue to haunt the grounds until the property and it holdings are returned back over to the living heirs of the Carpenter family. The last sighting of the gray lady was August, 7. 1997, in the basement of the library, librarians that work in the basement have reported visual phenomena such as a gray form, strong perfume, tactile sensations on their neck and hair and sensed presence.

Gray Ladies:
The ghosts of women who reportedly died violently for the sake of love or pined away from loss of love. Gray ladies take their name from their frequent appearance as a woman dressed in gray. Some, however, appear clothed in white, black and brown. According to lore, gray ladies haunt a house because of their intense desire to be reunited with a loved one. Their hauntings often are associated with poltergeist activity. Gray ladies appear around the world.

Method:
The Vernier System was used in two locations in the basement one was setup inside the children's reading room and the Second outside the reading room. Sensors included. Two Motion Sensors, one Light sensor, one Temperature Probe, and one Magnetic Field Sensor. The second was setup with the same sensors I do not have the results back on them at this time. The children's reading room was sampled for one hour

Channel 1: Visible Light Sensor: This sensor recorded no unusual light in this room it went from 0.2 Lux, to 3.9 Lux and the cause for this was from lights from outside the building.

Channel 2: Magnetic Field Sensor: The Magnetic field sensor did not show any changes in this aera. This sensor was pointed NORTH.

Channel 3: Temperature Probe: The Temperature prob did not record any changes it was 21.8c=71.24f at the start and went down to 21.0c=69.8f at the end of the sampling period. We look for a 10 or 15 degree drop for it to be anomalous.

Digital/Sonic 1: Motion Sensor: This Motion sensor did not record any motion during this one hour sampling period. This sensor was pointed EAST.

Digital/Sonic 2: Montion Sensor: This Motion sensor did not record any motion during this one hour sampling period. This sensor was pointed SOUTH.

Photographs: Some of the photographs revealed some orbs that was taken by some of the researchers. The one group shot on the stairs shows one or over Adria Westfall's face and a second photo that shows something over Zak Riggs' head. We do not know what this could be.

Video: No unusual video was recorded.

EMF Field Sensor: We had a 3.6mG on a EMF Field Tester and a Cell Sensor at the same time this reading was taken on the stairs between the first and second floor by David Dugas and Tim Bee. No cause could be found for this to occur.

At this time the Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators would like to thank Greg Hager and the staff of the Willard Library for having us as host for this overnight investigation I would like to thank all of the SIPI members for all the hard work they did. I would also like to thank the MESA team Tim Harte and Mike Hollinshead for all the help they give us on investigations. Also PHI of Indiana for coming down and helping us out. Thank you all and we will see you in 2007.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium.

Title: Waverly Hills Sanatorium 3

Summary:

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium has a long and rich history of haunt phenomena. MESA (multi-energy sensor array) and members of other groups joined to investigate the site and record haunt phenomena. The team experienced several subjective experiences, pinlight orbs were captured on digital and 8 mm video and anomalous 0-0.5 Hz magnetic field spikes and infrared light were recorded.

Introduction:

The Waverly Hills Sanatorium opened in 1926. It was built at a cost of 1 million dollars at the time. Tuberculosis was rampant around Louisville area, and it was also described as swampy at the time. The death rate was very high for the people that contracted tuberculosis. The hospital was known for its "state of the art" treatment, which was still experimental and barbaric for that time. Ultraviolet light was used to alleviate the disease. Meny different procedures and experiments were conducted. The hospital features, a large 5 story building with many patient rooms, nurse stations, and bathroom facilities. The building closed in 1961 and then reopened in 1962 as a geriatric hospital and nursing home. It was then called Woodhaven Geriatrics Sanatorium. Many stories circulated that the patients suffered mistreatment and horrible conditions. Woodhaven was closed in 1982 because of alleged abuse to patients. The building was sold to several different owners over the next 18 years. One owner wanted to tear it down, but was stopped because it was on the National Historic Register list. An owner then decided to let it decay. Vandals, thieves, homeless people and teenagers took it over. Rumors of satanic rituals, drug and alcohol parties, and homeless people living within its walls continued. Most of the marble was stripped away, as well as all of the toilets, sinks, radiators, and glass windows. Rumors began that the hospital was haunted. Stories of phantom children, rooms lighting up with no power to the building, doors slamming, voices, and even ghost hearses dropping off coffins were told. Especially eerie was the story of an apparition of a woman bleeding from the wrists, with chains on her, running from the building screaming. The new owners have had the building since 2000 Charles and Tina Mattingly. They are presently opening the hospital to tours and overnight investigations. They eventually hope to raise enough money to keep it open as a business. Previous investigations have yielded a variety of experiences included apparitions, sensed presences, erratic functioning of equipment including magnetic field meters. Hot and melted meters and equipment, cold spots, cooking food smells, footsteps, sounds of doors closing, orbs of light on digital and film cameras, flickering lights and luminosities, electronic voice phenomena, voices of people telling researchers to " get out," and object movement of doors closing or slamming shut. Several researchers have been attacked by objects falling from the ceiling, or by unknown presences that have scratched, pushed or tripped them.

Method: The researchers set up MESA, infrared and night shot video cameras in several places on the first floor. The MESA system was set up for 1 one hour sampling period in the room that was once the morgue. MESA was also complemented with a system used by SIGHT and other equipment supplied by the Southern Indiana Paranormal Investigators, which included a Vernier photogate.

Apparatus: The MESA computer system been described elsewhere (Harte, Black, Hollinshead, 1999; Harte, Black, Hollinshead, & Mitchell, 2001) and this investigation will focus on anomalous results of the investigation. The researchers are primarily looking for a 7 mG change in the graphs, or other anomalous information. A sampling rate of 40 times Per second was programmed, as this is the usual rate. Sound and video systems were utilized at this site. An infrared camera (Clover Electronics, www.cloverelectronics.com) and PZM (pressure zone microphone, Radio Shack) were connected to a video cassette recorder.

Photographs: Hundreds of photographs of the hospital were taken this evening. Several photographs reveal orbs, shadows that seem to move to different parts of doors and hallways. This evidence must be interpreted cautiously to be anomalous, or unusual.

Video: HI 8 nightshot cameras, digital video cameras, and video reveled some pinlight orbs moving during the investigation. Some of these may have been caused by other equipment the researchers were utilizing at the time. Some of these were not caused by other equipment, as well.

Audio: One group recorded E.V.P. but the results have not been presented to this author.

Subject results: The teams experienced some unusual shadows, and saw the pinlight orbs moving and disappear on several floors of the building.

Discussion: The results on the magnetic fields and infrared light are encouraging for this sampling period. Visible light is also questioned. The previous investigations have not revealed unusual magnetic field results. We would like to thank Chad and Elyssa Noonan, and Billy Miller for help and logistics during this investigation. We also want to thank Charles and Tina Mattingly, the owners of Waverly Hills complex, to allow us to conduct an investigation.

Site 1: This site produced unusual results in several channels

Monday, August 28, 2006

Channel 1: Infrared Light sensor:

The infrared shows 16 unusual negative dips in infrared light. These are about 7 footcandles down to 3. These cannot be explained unless something moved over the sensor.

Channel 2: Visible light sensor:

The visible light is about 70 footcandles during the sampling period. The lights were off during this period for the infrared camera to function properly. There are three negative events down to 67 footcandles. This is also unusual for this site.

Channel 3: Gamma ray detector:

The gamma ray sensor recorded 5 events during this sampling period. These are above 1 V but are not unusual for this area.

Channel 4: Tri-Field Meter:

The Tri-Field Meter recorded normal changes during this sampling period. These levels were between 1 mG and 1.25 mG throughout the sampling period. What would account for this would be 60Hz electricity source from wiring in this room.

Channel 5: No sensor connected for this sampling period

Channel 6: Static magnetic sensor pointed WEST:

This sensor recorded an unusual spike from 7 to 10 mG and then down to 3.5 mG over the course of the first 7 minutes. These unusual fluctuations during the sampling period, and is enough of a change to cause some types of haunt phenomena.

Channel 7: Static magnetic sensor pointed UP:

This sensor recorded a gradual rise from 7 mG to 9 mG over the sampling period.

Channel 8: Static magnetic sensor pointed NORTH:

This graph shows a rise in the first three minutes from 9.5 mG to 11.25 mG. Then there is a negative fluctuation to 8.25 mG, and then a rise to the top of the scale. This is an anomalous change for this area, and could cause sensed presences or a number of other phenomena.

The Morgue!

This photo of Tim Harte from MESA and Bill Miller of SIPI was taken in the morgue at Waverly Hills Sanatorium. You can see the energy coming off of Bill's shoulder. Tim and Bill were setting up the MESA and the Vernier system and, for the first time in three years, a 7mG (milligauss) change in the static magnetic field. This is what researchers look for in haunted phenomena as you can see in the graph below. Photo: by Adria Westfall
